Your eyes said more then words could ever possibly do when you looked at me the other day. They were glazed over as they do when you have a really bad hangover; just now it was not because of alcohol but a love overdose. I tried to figure out what it could be, why, as I’ve always done. There were not the signals of boredom, just carelessness, which is far worse.

We went to Cannes four days ago, two Londoners post argument, to be isolated in a foreign country for a week. It was sweet, we had both good intentions. But now after four days I love you more then ever and you are looking over my shoulder for a greener path.

(How I made it all into such an illution after we broke up. This reminds me of how sad you made me feel and why I behaved as difficult as I did.)

I found this amazing indoors swing designed by Marcel Wanders when I went for a walk in my Islington the other day! I tried it and was addicted after two seconds.....So when Im buying my first home this is the first piece of furniture I'll get. Brilliant- it's even available in purple and red.

Christopher Shannon + Reebok= 'Scally elegance.'

Christopher Shannon like Simone Shailes(for Top Shop) seems to be the start of that new high street-meets- young designer trend. Christopher is to do a line for Reebok only one year after leaving Central Saint Martins (CSM). The high street that used to play it safe collaborating with more well established names like Viktor & Rolf and Kate Moss is now daring to take on new and fresh talent.

Reebok that sponsored Christopher’s Spring/Summer London Fashion Week show in September 2008 has commissioned him to design a limited edition capsule collection of Reebok Classics and Exo fit trainers and remodelled sportswear pieces. Designer sportswear had a real breakthrough when his fellow CSM graduate Stella McCartney produced a female line for adidas in 2004.

In contrast to many of his fellow ex CSM students turned famous fashion designers, Christopher’s clothes are and aims to be shop rail ready. “ What I do is design products that I want to be of a high quality, and to sell, not some rubbish inspired by a dream I had when I was on holiday holding a hand-embroidered handkerchief of my grandfather’s from when he was in the circus.” He said.

Only a couple of months after leaving CSM with a master in fashion design- Christopher debuted under the Top Man sponsored London Fashion Week show in September 2008. The learning curve has been steep ever since. Being a northerner its clear where his inspiration comes from, his clothes having been described as ‘scally elegance’ and ‘tailored sportswear’.
For being in his twenties the man’s resume is very impressive and includes a collaboration with senior stylist to the stars Judy Blame (for Commes des Garcons) and having his work stocked in Paris’ main fashion boutique Colette.

Leaving POP for LOVE

She has been a publishing fairytale for more then a decade and has done it again- Katie Grand is behind the new style bible LOVE set to launch February 19th.

Katie Grands career started when she launched Dazed and Confused back in 1992 with fellow University of the Arts London students Rankin Waddell and Jefferson Hack. Katie Grand was a part of the new and more edgy fashion magazine world that combined art and broke the sexual borders- like her own POP Magazine launched in 2000.
Katies’ LOVE will be published by Conde Nast which currently is recognised as the most powerful publishing house devoted to fashion. Conde Nast that tried to buy POP from Bauer will finally have its own high end fashion magazine. The media empire that also publishes Vouge and GQ said that LOVE will “be larger than most monthlies,” and that it will be “edgy and exciting.”
LOVE’s Launch party was held in December 2008 and was well stacked with celebrities like Henry Holland, Agyness Deyn and Giles Deacon to name a few.

If being a publishing extra ordinaire wasn’t enough Katie is one of the fashion worlds most wanted stylists- and is rumoured to earn between £3.000-4.000 daily working for fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Loewe.
Not only is POP loosing Katie to LOVE, she is taking people with her as she goes, like former creative directors Stuart Spalding and Lee Swillingham, former senior editor Murray Healy and former senior fashion editor Tim Clifton-Green all planned to take the same positions at LOVE.

HUSSEIN CHALAYAN AT THE DESIGN MUSEUM

The Design Museum has finally devoted an exhibition to twice named British Fashion Designer of the year Hussein Chalayan.

Having exhibited his work around the world including MOMA in New York the British designer and CSM alumnus Chalayan was at January the 21st honoured with his first major UK exhibition. Chalayan is an unusual designer working in that space where art, architecture and fashion meets and is widely renowned for being a leader in experimental and conceptual design.
“I don’t see fashion as an isolated island” said Chalayan and commented on the exhibition itself “I see this as an opportunity to invite other audiences from the world of architecture, art and design.”

In Chalayans world suitcases and other furniture might well serve as outfits. The exhibition is spanning over his fifteen years of experimental projects including a dress made of Swarovski crystals and 15,000 flickering LED lights and his ‘Before Minus Now’ a dress made of aircraft construction materials which changes shape with help from a remote control.

Chalayan was born in Turkey in 1970 and moved with his family to London in 1978. His work is naturally highly influenced by his personal background with themes such as cultural identity, displacement and migration. Probably what shows his inspiration best is the film he contributed with to the Venice biennale in 2005- a film featuring actress Tilda Swinton wearing a biologist’s uniform dipping the T shirts of three non Bristish women in solution to get their DNA sequences. The film was meant to illustrate the suspicion against foreigners in the terrorism age.
Chalayan graduated from CSM in 1993 with a collection that contained clothes which he had buried in the back of his garden and dug up again a couple of days later. The entire collection titled “The Tangent Flowers” was soon after bought by fashion boutique Browns.

ACROSS THE POND is a club night created by a group of young Scan-
dinavians that collectively wish to establish an independent scene
for Scandinavian music and art in the UK.
One day London based music enthusiast/journalist Victoria Roald
realized that as while Scandinavian music grew constantly more
popular in the UK it had no real independent night/event/scene. So,
she got together with fellow Norwegians Lotte Jarlset and Bjornar
Pedersen, the Swede Anders Stockman and the Dane Anders Brach
Willulmsen and the result became ‘Across The Pond.’

We intend to make you dance till your feet bleed and want you to leave
more festive as when you arrived.
